Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for many legendary styles worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as a number of outfits for her US tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains profoundly felt.
