Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention the player by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name Rice by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
