Dominant Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive year.
The 27-year-old won four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the entire year as the world number one, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a record ÂŁ11m in earnings.
She garnered almost eighty percent of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "elevate women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking 13-month break following the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
