Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial names under consideration to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the squad's ten-game winless start to the Premier League campaign.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic links to the team - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the ex- Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves board as they begin the search of appointing a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock choice considering he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
