Preview this Revamped Classic Adventure: This Complimentary Trial for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Debuts Soon.

Fans anticipating the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait much longer. An free-to-play trial experience will become available on January 7th, offering a sizable look into the game's opening hours. Notably, any save data achieved within this demo will be able to be transferred directly into the main game upon its February release.

More Than a Straightforward Re-release: The Complete Reimagining

This project represents a from-scratch reimagining of the iconic year 2000 RPG, initially titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct step away from other Dragon Quest re-releases, such as the recently launched HD-2D versions, this reimagining embraces a unique three-dimensional aesthetic. Locales appear to resemble intricate model sets, with protagonists having a appealing chibi-esque appearance.

"Considering the previous remake, the main quest was still exceptionally lengthy. Consequently, the team came to a determination that we wanted to condense the story, [and] craft an experience for contemporary players."

Key Mechanical Enhancements & Updates

Square Enix has added numerous modernizations to update the original experience. Among these are:

  • Quick Field Encounters: Similar to contemporary role-playing games, low-level foes are now dispatched directly on the exploration screen eliminating the need for entering a full turn-based combat screen.
  • Variable Combat Pace: Players have the option to speed up battle sequences to rapidly power through easier fights.
  • Expanded Job Mechanics: One completely new vocation was created for this reimagining. Furthermore, party members gain the option to master a second vocation, greatly enhancing strategic depth.

Such changes are designed to tackle one of the 2000 game's common criticisms: its considerable length. The original adventure was known to require more than 100 hours to see through. The reimagined version was expressly designed to enhance pacing and cut down on perceived bloat.
