The former Liverpool manager admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that returning someday remains a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on roles as head of global soccer for Red Bull and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the possibility of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach any other side on English soil. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, so the choice could be mine in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, no such pressure exists. I'll simply watch what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on which situations must arise to bring him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “No longing for management; No desire to be during downpours through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, acknowledging his role for the adjustments that took the title in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward like Florian Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. The French striker, excellent performer. They have a strong balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a vehicle collision together with his sibling in July.
“How do you replace such an individual? It’s not about his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly about it. It was an incredible shock for all the boys too. No one within the club might employ it for poor performances yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Overwhelming.”
