The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network unveiled a completely new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this charming family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially be part of that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
