The President Invites Families of Attacked Military Members to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Call
The president explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump informed reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees gathered over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to assist policing efforts in DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers desired. She conducted herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, told the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always eager to support those in need.”
Service details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Changes
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the government to pause refugee claims and halt issuing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told a news show that she also intended to meet with the family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
